The Tiger We Went To See

I’ve been re-exploring the world of children’s theatre over the last weeks and have found some amazing toddler friendly productions in London at the moment.

The Tiger Who Came to Tea

This is a family favourite story, so we went to see it last weekend, and it did not let us down. It is the most fantastic production of the book, the set and costumes mirror the illustrations, so you feel as if you are in the book, and the acting is wonderful. The tiger himself is fantastic, and captivated Fifi from the off, with his love of cake and buns, washed down with a houseful of water, poor little Sophie is forced to eat yummy scrummy sausages for her tea! With an educational emphasis and lots of singing and audience participation, this really is one to see. I cannot recommend it enough!  For my full review, click here.

Hairy Maclary and Friends

The Riverside studios have brought the story of Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy by Lynley Dodd back to life, after a successful run a year ago. It tells the story of all of Hairy Maclary’s friends, including Bottomley Potts – covered in spots, and Hercules Moses – as big as a horse, with lots of singing and dancing. It’s only at the Riverside Studio’s until 15th July, so don’t miss out.

Go! Go! Go!

Fifi’s favourite turn of phrase (too many Sunday’s being forced ro watch Formula 1 I suspect), this is actually a musical production for children, from Mike Stock (of Stock, Aitken and Waterman) fame and Steve Crosby (the man who gave us Steps!). It’s the story of 5 firnds looking for a sock eating monster, getting into scrapes and meeting new friends along the way. Full of catchy songs and lots of dancing, it’s great for all ages. Little ones are captivated by the music and colours, while older children can enjoy a new story. Think sock waving madness (socks provided) with lots of excited children and you get the idea! A brilliant day out for the whole family.

  1. Whenever the subject of children's books come up I always recommend Hairy McClary from Donaldson's Dairy and the other books in the series. I can still recite great chunks of it from memory from having read it to Lucy, Sam and Edward over and over when they were little. It was a good one for them to memorize so we could all read along together. "We're Going on a Bear Hunt" was a good one for that too!
