Chanel vs Mac

First up, have you entered my competition to win tickets to Lollibop? Click here and enter asap, it closes tonight, and Lollibop looks like being an incredible event this year!

Second up, I have to tell you about a new Mac product that is absolutely brilliant. You may have read on previous posts that I am quite a fan of Chanel D'Illusion Ombre Eyeshadows, which are individual pots of creamy, mousse like eyeshadows, that blend really well and then set, and stay put all day (coupled up with Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner and you are good to go for an entire day). Well, hot on Chanel's quilted leather toes is Mac with their Electric Cool eyeshadows. In a good range of 12 shades (some much more fashion forward than Chanel), from vibrant purple, through to shimmery taupe, and at only £14, compared to £23 from Chanel, they seem to good to be true.

The texture is almost identical to Chanel. A soft creamy texture, almost like a pot of chocolate mousse, that sets to a shimmery powder in a few seconds. I tried Superwatt, a neutral taupe shade, with some soft shimmer, which is similar to Chanel's Emerveile, but with more of a deep brown undertone. I loved it, and felt that it was identical to Chanel in every way, except that the packaging was not so nice, but it would really take something special to beat those interlocking C's.

I have found, with both products, that it is much easier to apply them with a finger than a brush, as a brush does not pick up enough shadow for an even sweep across your whole lid. For shading, a brush might be handier, but I have tended to use them as a colour wash, and define with eyeliner. However, if you are a brush fan, the Mac 252 brush seems to be the best option, with its firm bristles.
